Arly National Park

The Arly National Park ( French Parc National d 'Arly ) is located in southeast Burkina Faso , southwest of the Chaîne de Gobnangou . In the west, the park borders other protected areas and forms a contiguous area u. a. with the Réserve partial de Pama . In the south the national park borders on the Pendjari River , on whose southern bank ( Benin ) the Pendjari National Park is located. Both parks are part of the cross-border, multinational WAP national park complex . The park covers 76,000 hectares of land. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the WAP National Park Complex since 2017 .

Large animals include elephants , the critically endangered West African lion , leopards , buffalo , some antelope and monkey species , hippos , crocodiles , Nile monitors , pythons and warthogs .

In addition to Sudanese grass , tree and forest savannahs , there are also real gallery forests here , which have practically disappeared in the Burkinabe cultivated land. The Arly National Park is located 100 to 500 m above sea level. The annual precipitation is 1000 mm.

There are several tourist lodges.

Through the Arly National Park a traditional migration route of running Fulani -Hirten. Every year, large herds of cattle move through the park on a set route. The national park administration in the park itself handles the payment of per capita flat rates.

Since 2009 the Arly National Park has also been a Ramsar reserve .
