Armando Gonzalo Alvarez Reina

Armando Gonzalo Alvarez Reina is a Mexican diplomat.

Career

Reina received a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1986. In 1984 he had completed a preparatory course at the Instituto Matías Romero in order to be able to join the diplomatic service. In 1996 Reina also received a Masters in International Relations from Deakin University, Australia , specializing in Pacific Studies. In 2003 a master's degree in national security followed at the Centro de Estudios Superiores Navales de la Armada de México.

In 1982 Reina began his career with the Foreign Service as an analyst in the Directorate General for Cultural Affairs. From 1984 to 1987 he was an analyst in the Directorate General for Latin America and the Caribbean. On January 1, 1988, he was directly accepted into the Foreign Service. That year Reina worked as an analyst for the Directorate General for Borders and International Rivers. From 1988 to 1989 he was Head of Department in the General Directorate for Latin America and the Caribbean. From 1989 to 1993 Reina was responsible for cooperation and foreign policy at the Mexican embassy in Guatemala . In 1993 he became the Mexican consul in Sydney (Australia). From 1996 to 2000 he was head of the Mexican Embassy inSouth Korea and from 2000 to 2002 Secretary of the Delegation for External Relations in the Mexican state of Campeche . This was followed by the post of High Commissioner in the Ministry of the Navy from 2002 to 2003. From 2003 to 2004 he was director for the OAS in the Directorate General for Organization and American Regional Mechanisms. Reina was then Head of Office in the Mexican Embassy in Costa Rica from 2004 to 2007 , before becoming Director General for Asia and the Pacific Region from 2007 to 2012.

In 2012 Reina became the Mexican ambassador for Costa Rica. This was followed in 2014 by the post of ambassador in Australia (accreditation in Australia on February 27), with the extended responsibility for Papua New Guinea , the Solomon Islands , Fiji and Vanuatu and in 2017 the appointment as Mexican ambassador in Jakarta for Indonesia and East Timor . Reina handed over the accreditation for Indonesia on January 17th, 2018.
