Armida
Armida is an operatic subject that was particularly popular in the 18th and early 19th centuries.
The story of the sorceress Armida, based on the 1575 epic La Gerusalemme liberata (Eng: The Liberated Jerusalem ) by Torquato Tasso, who uses her magical powers to hold the crusader Rinaldo imprisoned on her island, stimulated the imagination of composers in numerous versions, including :
- Jean-Baptiste Lully : Armide , 1686
- Georg Friedrich Handel : Rinaldo , 1710/11
- Carl Heinrich Graun : Armida , 1751
- Niccolò Jommelli : Armida abbandonata , 1770
- Antonio Salieri : Armida , 1771
- Johann Gottlieb Naumann : Armida , 1773
- Christoph Willibald Gluck : Armide , 1777
- Domenico Cimarosa : L'Armida immaginaria , 1777

- Vincenzo Righini : La Gerusalemme liberata ossia Armida al campo de Franchi and La Selva incantata , 1803
