Armin Bachmann (born December 20, 1960 in Hildisrieden ) is a Swiss trombonist. He lives with his family in Wolfwil (SO) and Sörenberg (LU). After intensive teaching at several international institutes, he has devoted himself primarily to concert activities as a soloist and chamber musician.

Life

Bachmann received his first trombone lessons at the age of 14. He studied trombone at the Bern University of Music (teaching diploma for tenor trombone) and the Trossingen University of Music (concert diploma for bass trombone ) with Branimir Slokar. Then he studied wind orchestra conducting with Albert Benz at the Lucerne Conservatory .

He worked as a trombonist in European orchestras and was a member of numerous chamber music ensembles. He is involved in more than 50 CD recordings and numerous world premieres of contemporary works and has performed live on radio and TV stations. He was a member of the Klangwerkstatt Weimar, Ensemble Kontraste Nürnberg and was on tour in a duo with Cora Irsen, piano.

He is very involved in the Slokar Quartet , in which he has given international concerts together with his former teacher Branimir Slokar since 1983. Other active chamber music formations are the Trio Cappella together with Claudia Muff, accordion and Peter Gossweiler, bass; the Duo Trombonarpa with Carina Walter, harp and the Festival Brass Ensemble. He regularly gives concerts with Martin Heini, organ and Tatjana Fuog, piano. He is also a passionate alphorn player . He is also active as a conductor of brass and wind bands and symphony and chamber orchestras.

Bachmann taught as a professor at the Liszt School of Music Weimar and at master classes in Tokyo, Paris, Manchester, Vienna, Munich, Helsinki, Lugano, etc. He is also director of the Burgdorf Region Music School. Bachmann is active as a juror in various national and international competitions.

The canton of Solothurn awarded Bachmann the 2012 Music Prize.

In autumn 2019 he took part in the Brass @ Adler in Schüpfheim.

Yamaha Artist

Armin Bachmann has been a Yamaha Artist since 1995. He mainly works with Thomas Lubitz and Timo Hänf at Yamaha on the development of the Xeno trombone. He is also a workshop leader and ambassador for Yamaha. He is a member of the international Yamaha Neo Brass Ensemble.
