Cora Irsen (born November 21, 1974 in Troisdorf ) is a German pianist , presenter , organizer and ECHO KLASSIK Prize winner. She lives in Weimar with her husband Jörg Brückner and their daughter .

Live and act

Cora Irsen comes from a Rhenish family of musicians and began playing the piano at the age of 4. After early piano lessons with her grandfather, the composer Heinz Irsen, she went with 15 years as a junior student at the Cologne Music Academy in the class of Pavel Gililov . In 1993 she studied for 3 years at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling , then she completed her soloist training with the concert exam (with distinction) at the Liszt School of Music in Weimar with Rolf-Dieter Arens . She was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation and the Thuringian Graduate Fund. In 2000 Cora Irsen was a prizewinner at the International Franz Liszt Competition in Weimar. From 2001 to 2017 she had a teaching position at the "Franz Liszt" University of Music in Weimar. Since 2017 she has been a permanent employee of the "Franz Liszt" University of Music in Weimar. Cora Irsen gives concerts as a soloist and chamber music partner in Europe and Asia.

In her concerts, Cora Irsen tells with her own texts about the life and work of well-known personalities such as Franz Liszt , Richard Wagner , Robert and Clara Schumann , Johannes Brahms , Alice Herz-Sommer and Marie Jaëll . Since 2011 she has been the organizer of her own series of concerts at historical locations in Weimar. In 2016 Cora Irsen wrote a biography about the composer and pianist Marie Jaëll (1846–1925), "The Charmante Unknown" published by Weimar Verlag. In 2017 Cora Irsen recorded the entire piano works of Marie Jaëll (1846–1925) on five CDs as the world's first recording. For this recording she was awarded the ECHO KLASSIK in 2017 .
