Nikolla Bey Ivanaj

Nikolla Bey Ivanaj also Nikollë Ivanaj (born 1879 ; died November 23, 1951 in Tirana ) was an Albanian publisher and author. With his work as an editor he made an important contribution to the Albanian national movement Rilindja .

Life

Nikolla Bey Ivanaij was born in the Gruda region, a tribal area in Malësia e Madhe east of Podgorica . He is said to have studied in Belgrade , Vienna , Zagreb and Dalmatia . Nikolla Bey Ivanaj later worked as a civil servant in Serbia, including as a dragoman for the Serbian Foreign Ministry.

Nikolla Bey Ivanaj was editor of the weekly newspaper Shpnesa e Shqypnisë (Hope of Albania) , which was published between 1905 and 1908. This newspaper was founded in Dubrovnik and later appeared in Trieste and finally in Rome . In the languages Albanian , Italian and Serbo-Croatian , Shpnesa e Shqypnisë spread the ideals of the Rilindja and the importance of learning the Albanian language as an element of identity.

In 1915 Nikolla Bey Ivanaj published the newspaper Lidhja kombëtare (National League) . After participating in the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 , Nikolla Bey Ivanaj founded the newspaper Koha e re (Neue Zeit) and published it until 1925. In Shkodra , Nikolla Bey Ivanaj and his cousin Mirash Ivanaj published the newspaper Republika (Die Republic) out.

During the Second World War , in 1943, Nikolla Bey Ivanaj published the autobiographical-historical work Historija e Shqipëniës së ré: vuejtjet e veprimet e mija - Pjesa e parë (The history of modern Albania: My sufferings and actions - Part One) . In 1944 he published the volume of poetry Lulet e pasosme (The Unfinished Flowers) . After the Second World War, in 1945, Nikolla Bey Ivanaj published the second part of his history of modern Albania (Historija e Shqipëniës së ré - Pjesa e II-të) , which is mainly concerned with the role of the Catholic Roman Church in Albania dealt .

Nikolla Bey Ivanaj died on November 23, 1951 in Tirana .
