Hermann Otto Nietschmann , pseudonym Armin Stein (born January 11, 1840 in Neutz-Lettewitz , † November 27, 1929 in Halle ) was a German Protestant pastor, writer and composer.

Life

Hermann Otto Nietschmann was the son of the teacher Johann Nietschmann (1807-1891). At the age of 13 he entered the Latina of the Francke Foundations in Halle and obtained his Abitur there. In 1859 he settled in theology at today's Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg enroll . After completing his studies in 1864, he worked as a private tutor for a few years. In 1867 he became a deacon and later a pastor at the Moritzkirche and at the municipal hospital. He worked at the Moritzkirche for 40 years and then retired on October 1, 1907. The majority of his works (books and compositions) were created in the parsonage of the Moritzkirche.

Nietschmann was married to Berta Brandt (born March 23, 1841). The couple had four children.

Hermann Nietschmann's pseudonym originated from the old form of Hermann ("Armin"), the surname was formed by reading the first five letters backwards, so "Niets" to "Stein". The pseudonym Armin Stein was written on the majority of his works, including Hermann O. Nietschmann in brackets.

Literary work

The literary work of Hermann Nietschmann can be divided into two main areas: On the one hand, the popular stories - Nietschmann called them simple stories - in a total of 9 volumes, on the other hand, the historical story or German images of history and life in a total of 33 volumes. Since 1879 his works have mainly appeared in the bookstore of the orphanage in Halle (Saale).
