Army of Two is a third-person shooter video game developed by Electronic Arts that was released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in early 2008 . The plot revolves around two mercenaries, Eliot Salem and Tyson Rios, who struggled through wars, political unrest and a conspiracy between 1993 and 2009. The sequel, Army of Two: The 40th Day , has been available since January 12, 2010. Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel was released on March 28, 2013 . Just like the first part of the series, the two sequels are also indexed in Germany. Only the cut version of the third part is available in Germany.

A special feature of the game is that it was designed from the ground up for the two-player cooperative mode. So teamwork is needed to achieve certain game goals. The second mercenary can be played by the AI or by a second player via split screen . Electronic Arts shut down the servers for online mode on August 11, 2011 for cost reasons.

Game mechanics

The focus of Army of Two lies in the co-op mode and all game mechanics are designed for the two characters to work together. So it is possible for a player to direct the enemy fire on himself to allow the team member to flank the enemy. If a player is hit too often, they will not die instantly but remain injured until the team member heals them. It is also possible to grab the injured player in order to pull him out of the danger area. The injured player still has the opportunity to defend himself with his pistol.

There are also team actions, such as a robber ladder, which allow you to get over high obstacles that could not be overcome by one player alone.

To praise your partner, you can show them respect. Rios and Salem then strike or play guitar on their weapons.

reception

The reviews of Army of Two were mixed, so the co-op mode was generally praised, but the game could not convince in the single player mode due to problems with the artificial intelligence and monotony in the gameplay. Problems with the vehicle control and camera were also mentioned. In addition, the short duration of the game was often criticized. On Metacritic it is listed with an average rating of 72 percent.
