Arndt Frauenrath (2013)

Arndt Frauenrath (born August 23, 1940 in Heinsberg ; † March 31, 2015 there ) was a German entrepreneur and from 2000 to 2006 President of the Central Association of the German Building Industry (ZDB).

Life

Arndt Frauenrath was born in 1940 in Heinsberg as the son of the building contractor Gereon Frauenrath and his wife Carola Frauenrath (née Kessel).

After attending school and an apprenticeship as a bricklayer, Arndt Frauenrath began studying civil engineering in 1959 at the State Engineering School for Civil Engineering in Aachen, today's Aachen University of Applied Sciences . After graduating as a qualified engineer, he took over his parents' construction company in 1963 at the age of 22, which specialized in road and path construction. Arndt Frauenrath took the place of his mother Carola Frauenrath, who had managed the company for 19 years after the death of her husband Gereon Frauenrath in 1944.

Arndt Frauenrath expanded the road construction company from the beginning of the 1980s into a broad-based, medium-sized construction company. The fields of activity of the Frauenrath group of companies today range from project development and turnkey building construction to traffic route construction and landscaping to facility management, recycling and demolition.

Among other things, Arndt Frauenrath was a member of the supervisory board of VHV Vereinigte Hannoversche Versicherung from 2000 to 2008 and a member of the advisory board from 2008 to 2015 and a member of the supervisory board of Heinsberger Volksbank AG from 1993 to 2013. From 2004 to 2013 he held the position of chairman of the supervisory board.

Arndt Frauenrath had been married to Margust Frauenrath (née Wirtz) since 1964 and had three children. The Frauenrath group of companies is managed today in the fifth generation by the two sons Gereon and Jörg Frauenrath as managing partners.

Voluntary and social engagement

In addition to his entrepreneurial activities, Arndt Frauenrath held numerous honorary positions. In 1970 he moved into the Heinsberg City Council for a legislative period. In 1974 he was one of the founding members of the Aktiongemeinschaft Straße and was chairman from 1992 to 1999. In 1978 Arndt Frauenrath became a board member of the North Rhine-Westphalia Road and Civil Engineering Association and was its chairman from 1981 to 1987. He was also head master of the Rurtal road builders' guild from 1979 to 2008.

In 1983 Frauenrath was one of the founding members of the Association of German Building Material Recycling Companies, today's Bundesvereinigung Recycling-Baustoffe e. V. From 1983 to 1987 he was also a member of the board. In addition, from 1987 to 2000 he was a member of the board of the Research Association for Roads and Transports e. V. a. In 1996, Arndt Frauenrath was also one of the founding members of the Federal Association for the Privatization of Public Tasks. In 1987 he was elected federal chairman of the road and civil engineering sector in the ZDB and, in this function, also a member of the board of the ZDB in Bonn.

After several years as treasurer and vice president, the building trade day elected Arndt Frauenrath as the new ZDB president in 2000. He succeeded Fritz Eichbauer , who was President of the ZDB for almost 22 years. In 2006 Arndt Frauenrath decided not to run again.

During his presidency, Arndt Frauenrath campaigned for better framework conditions in the medium-sized construction industry and advocated cost savings for construction companies. His commitment led, for example, to the transition periods for the free movement of workers in the context of EU enlargement.

Arndt Frauenrath has received multiple awards for his entrepreneurial and voluntary commitment. In 2005 he was awarded the trade mark in gold, in 2006 the Ring of Honor of the German Construction Industry and in 2007 the Federal Cross of Merit (Cross of Merit on Ribbon). In 2008 the ZDB elected Arndt Frauenrath as an honorary board member.

In 2000 Arndt Frauenrath founded the A. Frauenrath Social and Cultural Foundation. It primarily supports families in need in Heinsberg and is dedicated to environmental, landscape and monument protection in the Heinsberg district.
