Arne Åkermark

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arne Åkermark (born November 12, 1902 in Stockholm , Sweden ; † December 20, 1962 there ) was a Swedish film architect .

Live and act

Arne Åkermark studied art and architecture in his hometown Stockholm in the 1920s and went on study trips to France and England. His first practical activities were as a decorator and interior designer. Immediately after the start of the sound film age, Åkermark began working as an architect in the domestic film industry, where he displayed enormous creative power over the next three decades.

He supervised almost 200 films in terms of structural engineering, mostly small productions unknown outside of Sweden, including some early (1930s) works with Zarah Leander and Ingrid Bergman . Since the 1940s, commissions for higher-quality productions have also been added, and Åkermark designed the film structures for some ambitious dramas such as Alf Sjöberg's Die Hörige , Ingmar Bergmans Kris and Gustaf Molander's Woman Without a Face (based on a Bergman script). Åkermark worked in the film studios of Råsunda until 1948, then in Sundbyberg. Arne Åkermark, who remained active to the end, died in 1962 in a Stockholm parish.
