Arnel Pineda (born September 5, 1967 in Sampaloc , Manila ) is a Filipino singer and songwriter .

Since December 2007 he has been the lead singer of the US rock band Journey . He was previously under contract as a solo artist with Warner Bros. , before he fronted the Philippine rock band The Zoo in 2006 until he joined Journey .

Before the boxing match for the WBO welterweight title Manny Pacquiao against Joshua Clottey , Pineda sang the Filipino national anthem Lupang Hinirang . However, he has been criticized for singing them too slowly.

As part of Typhoon Haiyan , Pineda made sure that Journey, together with her concert agency Live Nation Entertainment , the nearby Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and her manager John Baruck, donated more than $ 350,000 to provide food in the crisis region. They also called on their fans to donate themselves to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) agency .
