Arnellia fennica is a species of moss in the order Jungermanniales . It is the only species in the genus Arnellia .
features
The plants are light green, prostrate and one to three inches long. The flank leaves are rounded and opposite. The cells of the leaf margin are hem-like and strongly thickened, the other leaf cells are delicate-walled and have only weak corner thickenings. Each cell contains six to ten oval oil bodies . The lower leaves are narrowly lanceolate.
Brood bodies are seldom formed. They arise in the middle of the underside of the leaf.
Distribution and locations
The species is distributed arctic-alpine: It occurs in the Alps as well as in the arctic regions of Europe and North America. In Germany it is limited to the Berchtesgadener Land . It grows on a lime-rich subsoil.
