Arno Bornkamp

Arno Bornkamp (* 1959 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch classical saxophonist and music teacher.

Bornkamp studied saxophone at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Ed Bogaard and graduated with honors in 1986. As the winner of the Dutch Music Prize, he was able to continue his training in France with Daniël Deffayet and Jean-Marie Londeix and in Japan with Ryō Noda and work with composers such as Luciano Berio and Karlheinz Stockhausen .

After his debut with Jacques Iberts Concertino da Camera , he gave more than one hundred concerts with various symphony orchestras around the world, in which, in addition to classical saxophone literature, he also performed works composed especially for him such as Jacob TV's Tallahatchie Concerto . His repertoire also includes the saxophone concertos by Joey Roukens and Carlos Michans , Frank Martin 's Trois Danses, originally written for oboe, and works by Martijn Paddings , Christian Laubas , Peter van Onnas , Otto Kettings , Louis Andriessens , Jacob ter Veldhuis ', Simon Burgers ', Wijnand van Klaverens , Perry Goldsteins and others.

As a chamber musician, Bornkamp has been a member of the Aurelia Saxophone Quartet for more than 40 years . He has worked as a duo with the pianist Ivo Janssen for just as long . He also plays in the Clazz Ensemble , an ensemble of classical and jazz musicians. His discography includes more than a dozen CDs. He realized the Bach in Beeld project with the video artist James Murray .

For the 200th birthday of Adolphe Sax , he initiated the saxophone festival SAX14 in Amsterdam in 2014 . In addition to teaching at the Amsterdam Conservatory, Bornkamp gives various master classes for saxophonists.
