Arnold (Abbot)
Arnold († 1166 ) was a historian (possibly the Annalista Saxo ) and abbot of the Berge and Nienburg monasteries.
Arnold came from the Diocese of Halberstadt . In 1119 he became abbot of the Johannes monastery in Berge near Magdeburg . He also became abbot of the Imperial Monastery of Nienburg an der Saale (in Saxony-Anhalt) in 1134 . Following the example of Adam von Bremen , he created a Magdeburg diocese history for the period up to 1142. After that, he is said to have written a Frankish-German history from 1144 to 1152, which extends from 741 to 1139. Whether this is the Annalista Saxo is controversial.
