Arnold Böcklin is a font that was designed in 1904 by the Otto Weisert type foundry in Stuttgart . It is named after the symbolist Swiss painter Arnold Böcklin , who died in 1901.

Arnold Böcklin is probably the best-known Art Nouveau font and is characterized by its floral shapes. It was created for use in large font sizes. The decorative appearance was more important than legibility.

The writing was of great importance for the book design of the Art Nouveau. It experienced a renaissance in the 1960s and 1970s when Art Nouveau design came back into fashion. It also influenced the illustrations by the British artist Roger Dean and, more recently, the work of the stucco artist Paul Harvey (* 1960). Since the software package of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite contains a plagiarism by Arnold Böcklin under the name “Arabia”, the font was and is often used in connection with the Orient and the Middle East, although it actually has nothing in common with the calligraphy of Arabic scripts.

The trademark rights for Arnold Böcklin are now with Linotype .

The OpenType variant of the font supports Adobe ISO 2, Adobe CE, and Latin Extended character sets.
