Arnold Gamper

Arnold Gamper SJ (born January 28, 1925 , † September 8, 2007 ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic priest , theologian and Old Testament scholar.

Life

He studied classical philology , oriental studies , Egyptology , philosophy and theology in Vienna , Pullach and Innsbruck . He obtained a licentiate from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and a doctorate from the University of Innsbruck (1961). He taught as a university professor for Bible studies of the Old Testament and Oriental languages ​​and head of the Institute for Old Testament (1968–1995) in Innsbruck and dean of the theological faculty 1971/1972.
