Arnold Hörburger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arnold Hörburger (born February 17, 1886 in Rotterdam , † February 20, 1966 ) was a Dutch football player . He played eight international matches for the Dutch national football team .

The midfielder was active together with his twin brother Anton, who could not be distinguished from him, at VOC Rotterdam when he was allowed to play for the first time in the Elftal on April 10, 1910 in Haarlem on the terrain of the HFC against Belgium . After half an hour he left the court injured. After half-time he came back fresh and rested and played the entire second half; the Netherlands won 7-0, but Hörburger did not score any of the goals. Observers were convinced after the game that it was not Arnold but his twin brother Anton who had come onto the field after the break; However, substitutions were still forbidden at that time. However, the Dutch offered the Belgians a player swap when their middle runner Charles Cambier was injured; he also came back on the field in the second half, but could only fill an extra role. In the statistics, Anton only appears on the bench in this match - as in at least four other games; he remained without an official international match throughout his life. Arnold, on the other hand, was used in seven of the next eight international matches, most recently on March 24, 1912 in Zwolle against the German Reich in the match in which Julius Hirsch scored his only four goals for the DFB at 5-5.

Both brothers then belonged to the squad of the Dutch Olympic team , which won the bronze medal in Sweden, but were not used in any of the games.
