Arnold Mettler (entrepreneur, 1867)

Arnold Mettler (born December 31, 1867 in St. Gallen ; † May 26, 1945 there ) was a Swiss entrepreneur .

Live and act

Mettler was the son of Anna Hedwig Lämmlin and Johannes Mettler, who was a textile entrepreneur in St. Gallen. In 1892 he joined the family business, which was called Mettler & Co. from 1897 . In 1897 he became a junior partner of the company, and in 1912 a senior partner . In 1931 Mettler retired from business life. He promoted the embroidery industry and contributed significantly to the company's growth.

From 1927 to 1934 Mettler was for the Free Democratic Party in the St. Gallen Cantonal Council , and resigned during his tenure. He openly sympathized with National Socialism and signed the entry for the two hundred . In 1938 he was dismissed as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mettler & Co. AG because of "political confusion" . Mettler was also an art collector .

In 1940 he published a chronicle of the Mettler and Brunner family from Toggenburg .
