Arnold Wilhelm Hardt jun. (* August 10, 1843 in Lennep ; † November 26, 1897 ibid) was a German entrepreneur in the textile industry and temporarily president of the Bergische Chamber of Commerce in Lennep .

Life

Arnold Wilhelm Hardt joined his father's company, Johann Wülfing & Sohn , in 1871 at the age of 28. Johann Arnold Hardt the Elder had become the owner of the company through his marriage to Anna Wülfing in the second half of the 18th century, which ran a cloth factory in Dahlerau . Arnold Wilhelm Hardt devoted himself primarily to the construction and expansion of the worsted spinning mill in Lennep, which was put into operation in 1880/1881. With around 2000 employees, the company was one of the largest in the industry.

In addition to his entrepreneurial activity, he was involved in numerous honorary positions. He was a member of the presbytery and honorary member of the Evangelical Workers' Association as well as chairman of various other charitable associations.

His commitment also included working for the Bergische Handelskammer zu Lennep , whose president he was unanimously elected on September 18, 1888. During his tenure, the Chamber's bulletin was published for the first time, the first edition of the “Handels-Nachrichten” appeared on June 21, 1889. For the 50th anniversary of the Chamber, Hardt held the celebrations in front of numerous guests on November 11, 1890 Speech. In January 1891, under his chairmanship, the chamber first issued rules of procedure . For his term of office, the construction of the Elberfeld – Cronenberg railway (opened in 1891) is seen as the most important achievement for which the Chamber had campaigned.

For health reasons, Arnold Wilhelm Hardt resigned from the office of President of the Chamber of Commerce in 1893 and died at the age of 54. He carried the honorary title of Commerce Councilor . He was married to Mathilde, born Rheinen (* August 1849 in Blankenstein; † February 14, 1916 in Bonn).
