Arnprior is a village in the Stirling Council Area . Located on the A811 22 kilometers west of Stirling , it is one of the smallest parishes in the traditional Scottish county of Stirlingshire with a population of 109 in 1991.
The name Arnprior comes from the Gaelic word earrann (in German: division of land ) and in this case the prior of Inchmahome owned the land. Walter Comyn, the Earl of Menteith, founded the priory in 1238, so the name could be about eight hundred years old. There are other "Arns" in and around Arnprior. Some include size (e.g. Arnmore) and other former owners (e.g. Arnfinlay).
Arnprior is located near the Flanders Moss National Nature Reserve and near the eastern boundary of Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, which includes the Lake of Menteith .
