Arnswaldt , also written Arnswald , more rarely Arneswalt and Ahrenswald, is the name of a Thuringian nobility family with the parent company of the same name near Stolberg in the Harz Mountains . The family is of a tribe and coat of arms with the extinct von Ascherode and von Tüticherode . Since the late 19th century, some members of the family have held the title of Freiherr or Baron .

history

The progenitor of the family is Bŭrchardus de Hohenstein , who first appeared in a document on September 4, 1178. As his brother, Hermanni de Arenswalt is named in 1217 , who at that time settled in the Arnswald (Aar forest or eagle forest, where eagles lived) near Uftrungen , and built his castle there on the head of this forest .
