The Arnulfsteg is a bridge under construction over the train tracks that lead to Munich Central Station . In the southern part, the bridge crosses the washing facility for ICE trains . As for Arnulfpark and Arnulfstrasse, the name of the bridge is the Bavarian Colonel General Arnulf of Bavaria .
After its completion, the Arnulfsteg will connect the Arnulfpark with the Schwanthalerhöhe district. Up to now there has been no possibility of crossing between the busy Donnersbergerbrücke and the Hackerbrücke, one kilometer east of this bridge, over the track apron of the main train station. The Munich Donnersbergerbrücke station on the main S-Bahn line is only accessible from the Donnersbergerbrücke. With the Arnulfsteg, the two platforms of the station will also have access to the east.
At the end of 2014, the Munich city council decided to build the footbridge, which should be completed in 2017. Due to delays in the procurement of materials, the construction could not be carried out, as the construction of the bridge requires the blocking of Deutsche Bahn tracks, which is only possible with a long lead time.
At the end of 2017, the city council voted again for the construction of the footbridge, the cost of which had risen from 18 to 26 million euros. Construction began in April 2018. The opening is planned for the end of 2020.
