Aron Pumnul
Aron Pumnul (born November 27, 1818 in Cuciulata , † January 24, 1866 in Chernivtsi ) was an Austrian Romanist .
life and work
Pumnul grew up in Transylvania . He studied in Blaj and Cluj-Napoca and became a high school teacher in Blaj in 1843. A scholarship enabled him to study in Vienna. As a participant in the Romanian Revolution of 1848 in Transylvania, he had to flee. He went to Chernivtsi and was there for the rest of his life the first teacher of Romanian at the kk I. Staatsgymnasium Chernivtsi . Karl Emil Franzos and Mihai Eminescu were among his students .
Pumnul published a Romanian grammar and the first anthology of Romanian literature. He gave one of his poems the title La mormântul lui Aron Pumnul . In Chernivtsi and Cluj-Napoca , boards, schools and streets commemorate him.
