The ARP 2600 is an analog , monophonic, semi- modular synthesizer from the 1970s, manufactured by ARP Instruments .

The semi-modular structure consists in the fact that many of the modules were already wired internally, but others could also be connected themselves via patch cables . The sound generation is provided by three VCOs and a self-oscillating VCF . In addition, the ARP has a spring reverb spiral , which can also be used to generate sound by tapping the housing lightly.

The ARP 2600 has a funky sound. It was and is used by many musicians to this day, including Brian Eno , Klaus Schulze , Jean Ven Robert Hal , Herbie Hancock , Joe Zawinul , Depeche Mode and Jean-Michel Jarre , which has given the instrument cult status today .

Software emulation for modern operating systems (Windows XP, Linux and Mac OS X) has been available for several years.

Part of the voice of the R2-D2 robot in the Star Wars films was generated with an ARP 2600.

Behringer announced in 2017 that it wanted to bring a clone of the ARP 2600 onto the market. At the end of 2019, Jean-Michel Jarre said in a video that KORG was also planning a clone in 2020.
