Arsakes (Pontus)

Arsakes von Pontus lived in the 1st century BC. BC and was briefly ruler of the kingdom of Pontus .

Arsakes was the second son and youngest child of King Pharnakes II and his Sarmatian wife. He had two older siblings, a brother named Dareios and a sister named Dynamis . His paternal grandparents were the Pontic king Mithridates VI. and his first wife, his sister Laodike . Arsakes grew up in the Kingdom of Pontus and the neighboring Bosporan Empire .

According to the Greek historian Strabo , Darius and Arsakes were guarded by a rebel commander, also named Arsakes, for a period of time when he held a fortress that was besieged by Polemon and Lykomedes of Komana.

Later Darius was made by the triumvir Marcus Antonius 39 BC. Used as ruler over Pontus. His reign as king was short, as he was already 37 BC. BC died. His brother Arsakes followed him. However, Arsakes' reign was very short-lived as he died early, probably in the same year. He was succeeded by Polemon .
