Arsenides

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As Arsenide are generally arsenic compounds referred to in which the arsenic is in the oxidation state -3 is, so the ion arsenide As 3- with three additional electrons is present. These can be viewed as salts of the poisonous arsine, AsH 3 , and should not be confused with arsenites and arsenates . It should also be noted that organic compounds of this form are known as arsines . Arsenides form covalent and salt-like structures.

Examples of this are well-known binary or ternary semiconductor materials such as gallium arsenide and aluminum gallium arsenide or also many minerals that contain the arsenide ion as the main anion . Many of the compounds release arsine when exposed to water or acids .
