Arthur Andrew Collins (born September 9, 1909 in Kingfisher (Oklahoma) , † February 25, 1987 in Dallas ) was an American engineer , inventor , radio amateur ( callsign WØCXX) and entrepreneur .

Life

Art Collins , as he was called by many, founded the Collins Radio Company (now Rockwell Collins ) in Cedar Rapids (Iowa) in 1933 , which manufactured radio equipment for professional use and amateur radio . An early innovation was the permeability-controlled oscillator (PTO) , in which a ferrite core is moved mechanically into the interior of a coil and thus changes the resonance frequency of the oscillating circuit . The use of mechanical RF filters was also typical.
