Art Paleczny

Arthur "Art" Paleczny (born April 3, 1929 in Waterloo , Ontario ; † April 6, 2020 in Kitchener , Ontario) was a Canadian local politician .

Life

Paleczny was born in 1929 as one of 13 children. In 1960 he was elected to the City Council of Waterloo for the first time and was a member of this for the next six years. From 1966 to 1967 he held the office of mayor of the city.

From 1961 to 1962 he was President of the Waterloo Region Home Builders' Association’s (WRHBA).

Most recently, Paleczny, who had dementia , lived in a nursing home in Kitchener, Ontario. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada , the first case of illness occurred in the nursing home on April 1, 2020. On April 4, Paleczny began to show the first symptoms of the disease. He died two days later. Paleczny was the second home resident to die of COVID-19 . As of April 7, a total of nine residents and one carer had tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus .

Paleczny was married and had children.
