Artemis Alexiadou ( Greek Άρτεμις Αλεξιάδου , born February 13, 1969 in Volos ) is a Greek linguist who works in Germany.

Career

Alexiadou started her linguistics studies at the age of 17 at the University of Athens . After graduating there in 1990, Alexiadou continued her education first at the University of Reading and then at the Center for General Linguistics in Berlin . In 1994 Alexiadou completed his doctorate at the University of Potsdam and completed his habilitation in the same position in 1999. After completing his habilitation, Alexiadou did research as a Heisenberg fellow at MIT , Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania and was a visiting professor in Tübingen and Potsdam. From 2002 to 2015, Alexiadou was Professor of Theoretical and English Linguistics and Head of the Institute for Linguistics: English Studies at the University of Stuttgart and the Collaborative Research Center 732 there. Since 2015 Alexiadou has been Professor of English Linguistics at the Humboldt University in Berlin and Deputy Director of Center for General Linguistics .

Alexiadou is an important representative of generative linguistics in Europe and was president of the association "Generative Linguistics in the Old World" from 2005 to 2009. It has achieved important results on a wide variety of topics in syntax . In particular, Alexiadou is an expert on the syntactic structure of noun phrases .

For 2014 she was awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize . In 2014 she was elected to the Leopoldina . In 2016, the Norwegian University of Technology and Sciences awarded Alexiadou an honorary doctorate .
