Melita Stavrou

Melita Stavrou , Greek Μελίτα Σταύρου , also: Stavrou-Sifaki , Greek Σταύρου-Σηφάκη (born June 18, 1952 ) is a Greek linguist specializing in the Modern Greek language .

Stavrou studied linguistics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from 1970 and graduated in 1975 with a diploma (πτυχίο). From 1979 to 1982 she was a postgraduate student at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London , where she received her doctorate in general linguistics in 1983 with a dissertation on Aspects of the structure of the Noun Phrase in Modern Greek . From 1984 to 1989 she was a research assistant at the University of Crete in Rethymno , after which she worked in ascending positions at the University of Thessaloniki until she was appointed professor of linguistics there in 2005.

Her research focuses on theoretical linguistics , the theory of syntax , the connection between syntax and lexical semantics , the connection between morphology and syntax, comparative syntax and morphosyntax . With regard to Greek, they are particularly interested in generative syntax , automatic translation as part of the Eurotra project of the European Community and noun phrases .
