Giorgos Kechagioglou

Giorgos Kechagioglou ( Greek Γιώργος Κεχαγιόγλου , born February 24, 1947 in Thessaloniki ) is a Greek Neo- Greekist .

Life

Kechagioglou studied philology from 1965 to 1969 at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki , from 1977 to 1979 he graduated from the Institut Néohellénique of the Université Paris-Sorbonne ; at the École pratique des hautes études , 4e section, and the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris, a postgraduate course in literary history and literary theory , semiotics and comparative studies . He received his doctorate in 1979 from the University of Thessaloniki. From 1975 he taught modern Greek philology there, and since 1989 he has been a full professor there. In 2012 he retired.

Kechagioglou works on modern Greek literature from the 12th century on, in particular on Cypriot literature. He has, among other things, an edition of the story of Ptocholeon , a study of the Apokopos , an edition of the stories of Halima , an edition of the late medieval and more recent Greek versions of the Historia Apollonii regis Tyri and the first known Greek translation of The able nobleman Don Quixote by the Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes and an introduction to the poetry of Dionysios Solomos and studies on Vasilios-Miltiadis Nikolaïdis (1815 or 1817–1903) and the Cypriot writer Kostas Mondis (1914–2004).
