Sofia Kotzabassi

Sofia Kotzabassi ( Greek Σοφία Κοτζάμπαση , born March 5, 1962 in Thessaloniki ) is a Greek Byzantine scholar and Professor of Byzantine Philology at the University of Thessaloniki .

life and work

Sofia Kotzabassi studied Byzantine Studies, Classical and Modern Greek Philology at the University of Thessaloniki from 1979 to 1985, after which she continued her studies at the Free University of Berlin and received her doctorate there in 1988. From 1989 to 1992 she taught as a lecturer for Byzantine Philology at the Aristotle University Thessaloniki, since then she has worked there as a professor. In the winter semester 1995–1996 she was professor for Byzantine Studies at the Free University of Berlin.

Sofia Kotzabassi's fields of work are Byzantine rhetoric and epistolography , philosophy ( Johannes Italos , Leon Magentinos ), historiography and prosopography , as well as Greek palaeography and codicology .
