Giannis Apostolakis

Giannis M. Apostolakis ( Greek Γιάννης Μ. Αποστολάκης ; * 1886 in Kalamata ; † April 3, 1947 in Athens ) was a Greek Neo-Graecist .

Apostolakis studied philology in Athens and Berlin . He was one of the more important representatives of the Dimotiki in the Greek language question . First he worked in secondary education, then from 1917 in the Folklore Archives of the Academy of Athens and was finally appointed professor of modern Greek philology at the University of Thessaloniki in 1926. After his resignation, the chair initially remained vacant.

Apostolakis worked on modern Greek literature, such as Aristotelis Valaoritis and Krystallis , but especially on folk songs .
