Horst Euler

Horst Euler (born April 23, 1910 in Bensheim ; † February 28, 1980 in Würzburg ) was a German opera singer ( baritone ) and singing teacher.

Life

Horst Euler was a son of Karl Euler († 1933) and a grandson of the Bensheim paper manufacturer Wilhelm Euler . His brother was the archivist and genealogist Friedrich Wilhelm Euler .

Euler studied art history , theater studies and singing in Munich, where he became a member of the Corps Vitruvia. As a singer he later received engagements in Augsburg and Cologne , from 1939 as a lyrical baritone at the Kassel State Theater . The roles he sang there included that of Papageno in the opera Die Zauberflöte , Figaro in the opera The Barber of Seville and Wolfram von Eschenbach in the opera Tannhäuser and the Sängerkrieg in Wartburg . In 1968 Euler withdrew from the stage; he took over the management of the opera class at the Kassel Music Academy and was most recently professor of singing and language education at the Bavarian State Conservatory in Würzburg.
