Artemisia herba-alba is a plant of the genus Artemisia within the family of Compositae (Asteraceae).

features

Artemisia herba-alba is a shrub that reaches heights of 30 to 60 centimeters. The leaves are 2 to 5 millimeters long, usually single, rarely double, pinnate, silvery, fluffy and aromatic. They are usually arranged in axillary clusters on the flowering stems. Except for the lowest, all the leaves are sitting. The heads are small and two- to five-flowered. All flowers are hermaphroditic. The fruit base is bare.

The flowering period extends from July to September.

The chromosome number is 2n = 18 or 36.

Occurrence

Artemisia herba-alba occurs in the southern Mediterranean region in Morocco, Spain and France, also in Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Saudi Arabia. The species grows in thinned pine forests.
