Arthonia is a species-rich genus of predominantly lichen-forming hose fungi . It is the type genus of the family Arthoniaceae , the order Arthoniales and the class Arthoniomycetes .
Ecology and diffusion
Arthonia includes lichen-forming fungi as well as lichenicole (lichen parasites / parasymbionts) and saprophytic species . The genus is predominantly tropical; 35 lichen-forming and 18 lichenicolous species have been identified in Germany. Many species of the genus prefer near-natural forests with milder climates and are sensitive to nutrient inputs; this explains the rarity of these species.
Systematics
The genus described by Erik Acharius in 1806 , with its several hundred species, is currently (2013) still a collective genus whose division into natural units has not yet been completed.
