Arthur Adell

Arthur Adell (born March 25, 1895 in Örtomta , † November 24, 1962 in Uppsala ) was a Swedish pastor, theologian and church music writer .

life and work

Adell was ordained in 1919 . He initially worked in the parishes of Vreta and Stjärnorp monastery, and from 1930 as a cathedral pastor in Lund . From 1938 he worked as a pastor at the St. Laurentii Church in Söderköping .

Adell researched church music mainly during the Swedish Reformation. From the mid-1920s, the results were mainly published in the Tidskrift för kyrkomusik och Svenskt gudstjäntsliv (since 1942 Svenskt gudstjäntsliv ), which he himself founded in 1926 and which he directed until his death. Other works are Tidebönernas musik , published in Det svenska antifonalet (I – II, 1944 and 1959). Adell's Gregorian Chant Textbook was published posthumously (1963).

The University of Uppsala awarded him an honorary theological doctorate in 1952 .
