Arthur Aeschlimann (manufacturer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Arthur Aeschlimann (* 29. January 1842 in Burgdorf , † 2. December 1908 in ibid ) was a Swiss Hafner , Ofenbauer and tube producer a significant Burgdorfer Hafner dynasty.

Life

Arthur Aeschlimann was the son of Heinrich Aeschlimann (1806–1866) and M. Bertha Burger von Burgdorf (1803–1853). For the year 1860 the exhibition of a hiking book is documented, ie he went on a journeyman's hike at the age of 18 in order to broaden his horizons and deepen his technical knowledge. The hiking book has not been preserved, so it is not known which part of Europe he has traveled. After his return he married Elisabeth Stähli von Burgdorf (May 9, 1842– January 16, 1876) in 1868 and Louise Ryser von Heimiswil in 1877 (October 30, 1846– June 9, 1919). In the address book for the municipality of Burgdorf, born in 1875, he is referred to as a “dike manufacturer” on Rütschelengasse. Presumably he had largely switched to tube production.

Products

No ceramic products are known from Aeschliemann . In an advertisement in the Anzeiger for the parishes of Kirchberg, Utzenstorf, Koppigen and Hindelbank on April 7, 1894, he referred to his "large warehouse in clay tubes and piglet and pig troughs of earthenware". In this context, it is astonishing that eleven Hafner journeyman can be found in his workshop between 1890 and 1901, seven of whom came from Switzerland (cantons Zug, Aargau and Solothurn), two from Bavaria, one from Württemberg and one from Bohemia. It is not known what they learned or produced from him.
