Career

Beier was one of the early players in Karlsruhe football, even if, apart from one of the so-called " original international matches " (1899 in Karlsruhe against England), he was never a national player. For professional reasons, Beier first moved to Stuttgart in 1898 ; after the turn of the century, the later education professor spent some time in Calais and Kiel . In Kiel he played a large part in the development of football there (see Holstein Kiel ). After his return in 1904 he had a decisive influence on the team of FC Phönix, which he had represented at the founding meeting of the Association of South German Football Associations as early as 1897 , as a center runner and captain and won the German championship title with him in 1909 . In the 4-2 final win in Breslau against BFC Viktoria 1889, he equalized the 1-0 lead of Berlin after half an hour. Beier was not only significantly involved in the rise of FC Phönix in terms of sport. In 1906 he and Ferdinand Lang financed an 18,000 m² site in Neureut, so that the club, which until then had to share the so-called Engländerplatz with other teams, had its own club site for the first time. His last competitive game was played in July 1912 against local rivals Karlsruher FV .

Others

Beier died as a soldier in the First World War on January 31, 1917 near Malancourt.

About the red-haired, bearded “lead wolf” of the team, who had his greatest strength in the header game, his teammate, later long-time Phönix chairman Karl Wegele, wrote in the commemorative publication “60 years of Karlsruher SC”: “A great general and excellent soldier in the game in one, as a person of exemplary character, he was called to lead.
