Arthur Blayney Percival

Arthur Blayney Percival (born 1874 ; died 1940 ) was a British game warden , hunter and naturalist in East Africa .

Life

Percival was a member of an expedition of the Royal Society to the Arabian Peninsula in 1899 , which was led by the taxidermen W. Dodson. In 1901 he went to East Africa and became the first game warden and ranger in Kenya and remained so until his retirement in 1923. He built several protected areas and was one of the people responsible for drawing up the "East African Game Ordinance", the East African hunting laws. In 1909 he was a founding member of the East Africa and Uganda Natural History Society .

Percival was one of the most famous experts on the African wilderness and a sought-after hunter. He also published several books, including A Game Ranger's Notebook in 1924 and A Game Ranger on Safari in 1928 .

Dedication names

After Percival several African species was named, including the mountain oriole ( Oriolus percivali ), the Arabia Gimpel ( Rhynchostruthus percivali ) Percival Smallear trident leaf-nosed ( Cloeotis percivali ) that Percival spiny mouse ( Acomys percivali ) and Percival gerbil ( Gerbillus percivali ).
