Arthur H. Robinson
Arthur Howard Robinson (born January 5, 1915 in Montreal , † October 10, 2004 in Madison (Wisconsin) ) was an American cartographer .
Robinson studied at Miami University in Oxford (Ohio) and at the University of Wisconsin – Madison . During the Second World War he was responsible for the maps at the Office of Strategic Services in Washington, DC , where he achieved the rank of major and was proposed by the OSS director for the Legion of Merit . After the war he was a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in 1947 he received his doctorate from Ohio State University .
Robinson became known for its low-distortion display of world maps, the Robinson projection , developed for the map publisher Rand McNally . From 1972 to 1976 he was President of the International Cartographic Association .
