Arthur Lamothe
Arthur Lamothe (born December 7, 1928 in Saint-Mont , France ; † September 18, 2013 ) was a French- Canadian film director and film producer .
life and work
Arthur Lamothe was born in Saint-Mont in the French department of Gers in 1928 . In 1953 he emigrated to Canada and immediately got a job as a lumberjack . His first film, Bûcherons de la Manouane, from 1962, which he made with Bernard Gosselin and Guy Borremans , is about a lumberjack camp. Lamothe has been associated with the National Film Board of Canada as a researcher and screenwriter since the late 1950s.
From 1954 to 1958, Lamothe studied economics at the University of Montreal and , after graduating, wrote for Radio Canada until 1961 . In 1962 he wrote the screenplay Dimanche d'Amérique , which was filmed by his longtime friend and colleague Gilles Carle . Lamothe founded his own film production company in 1965 , the Société générale cinématographique .
Lamothe was a lecturer at the Collège Sainte-Marie de Montréal , the École normal Jacques-Cartier Montréal , Cégep du Vieux Montréal , Université du Québec à Chicoutimi and the Université de Montréal .
In addition to numerous documentaries , he made several feature films
Lamothe became known for its sophisticated documentaries about Canada's First Nations . Between 1974 and 1984 he made 13 television films, including Carcajou et le péril blanc and La terre de l'homme . Mémoire battante (1983) and Le silence des fusils (1996) are impressive examples of ethnological film .
