Arthur Mettinger

Arthur Mettinger (born September 27, 1956 in Vienna ) is an Austrian linguist.

Life

Arthur Mettinger studied English , Slavic and Sinology from 1975 to 1982 at the University of Vienna . 1978/1979 he studied Chinese language at the Beijing Language Institute as an annual scholarship from the BMWF. In 1982 he graduated with a Mag. Phil. for the teaching post for higher schools.

From 1977 to 1987 Mettinger was co-designer and speaker of the TV language courses Russian for beginners and Russian for everyone at ORF . 1979/1980 he worked in the Conference Service of the International Atomic Energy Commission ( IAEA ). From 1981 to 1993 he was an assistant at the Institute for English and American Studies at the University of Vienna and from 1981 to 1997 he worked as a lecturer in English and Russian at the Diplomatic Academy of the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs. In 1989 he was promoted to Dr. phil. sub auspiciis Praesidentis rei publicae at Vienna University doctorate . In 1992/1993 he was an Erwin Schrödinger research fellow at the Linguistic Institute of the Catholic University of Leuven , Belgium. From 1993 to 1999 Mettinger was an assistant professor at the Institute for English and American Studies, University of Vienna. In 1999 he completed his habilitation in English / Linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Vienna.

Mettinger became an associate professor in 1999 and was Vice Rector for Teaching and International Affairs at the University of Vienna from 1999 to 2011. From 2004 to 2007 he was also President of the Network of European Capital Universities (UNICA). During his work as Vice Rector of the University of Vienna, he was particularly committed to e-learning , teaching development and the internationalization strategy of the University of Vienna. Since 2004 he has been the initiator of the strategy project for new media in teaching at the University of Vienna . He founded the "Student Point", the "Language Center of the University of Vienna", and the "Center for Teaching and Learning". As part of the Austrian Rectors' Conference (university conference), he headed the Teaching Forum from 2001 to 2011. In 2011/12 he was one of the national Austrian Bologna experts.

Since March 1, 2012 Arthur Mettinger has been rector of the FH Campus Wien . In November 2014 he was re-elected in this role. Since August 1, 2017, he has been the elected Vice Rector for Teaching and Deputy Chairman of the University of Applied Sciences Campus Vienna.

Arthur Mettinger is a member of the Catholic student association K.Ö.St.V. Rudolfina Wien in the ÖCV and the K.Ö.St.V. Comagena Tulln in the MKV
