Arthur Rohn
Arthur Rohn (born April 1, 1878 in Geneva ; † October 3, 1956 in Zurich ) was a Swiss civil engineer .
Arthur Rohn went to Geneva to high school and studied for the baccalaureate in 1895 at the Federal Polytechnic Civil Engineering. In 1899 he obtained his diploma and then worked in the bridge construction office of the Jura-Simplon Railway in Lausanne . In November 1900 he moved to the bridge building department of Gutehoffnungshütte in Sterkrade , whose technical office he ultimately headed.
In 1908 Rohn was appointed professor of engineering at the Eidgenössisches Polytechnikum and succeeded Emil Mörsch in the fields of structural engineering and bridge construction. In 1923 he became rector of the institution, which has since been renamed the Federal Institute of Technology . From 1926 to 1948 he was President of the Swiss School Council (today: Council of the Federal Technical Universities ). In addition, from 1929 to 1938 he was chairman of the newly founded International Association for Bridge Construction and Building Construction (IVBH) . He was also an honorary citizen of the TH Karlsruhe .
