Artjärvi
Artjärvi [ ˈɑrtjærvi ] (Swedish Artsjö ) is a former municipality in southern Finland. It was part of the Lahti administrative community in the Päijät-Häme region . Since January 1, 2011 it has been part of the Orimattila municipality .
Artjärvi is located around 100 kilometers northeast of Helsinki . Neighboring communities were Lapinjärvi , Iitti , Orimattila and Myrskylä . The entire population of Artjärvis is Finnish-speaking . The municipality had an area of 197.33 km² (of which 177.01 km² land and 20.32 km² inland water area) and most recently 1407 inhabitants. Artjärvi municipality has twinned cities with Vallentuna in Sweden (since 1960) and Mäksä in Estonia (since 1992).
In addition to the eponymous main town Artjärvi, the municipality included the villages of Hietana, Kinttula, Ratula, Salmela and Villikkala as well as some other scattered small settlements. The settlement focus was on the isthmus between the three lakes Villikanjärvi, Pyhäjärvi and Säyhtee.
In 2002–2006, the Finnish Astronomical Society Ursa established an observatory with an attached training center in Artsjärvi . The control room is equipped with a Meade LX200GPS reflector telescope with a focal length of 4,064 millimeters.
