Artless is a German punk band from Duisburg .

history

The musicians met in 1979 at Ratinger Hof in Düsseldorf and founded Artless in the same year. In 1980 her music was used for the WDR documentary No Future . During the band's lifetime, the single Mein Bruder is'en Popper, produced "in collaboration with Duisburg punk legend Willi Wucher " (Wucher is listed as a member of the choir in Mein Bruder is en Popper , together with Artless, Ulrike L. and Wolfgang ) , a sampler and a cassette released. Artless broke up in 1981.

The single appeared in 1990 on the sampler Deutsche Punkklassiker by Snake Records / AM Music and was also re-released by Teenage Rebel Records , the cassette was widely distributed in the underground and was released on LP in 1990. After the CD re-release (2007), the band was re-founded by Hank Sinatra and Willi Solid with the new members Max Moron, Steve Steak, Holle Holmquist and Pete Pancake, gave an interview in the Plastic Bomb and a chaotic appearance in the compressed air in Oberhausen .

Teenage Rebel Records announced the self-titled "first real album by Artless" for September 28, 2012 and an appearance on October 6, 2012 at AK47 in Düsseldorf.

According to Coolibri, Artless & Bodies will play in the Essen Freak Show on September 15, 2017.

style

Hardkern.de describes the music as “ German punk , which with its rhythm and lots of melody invites you to dance and is a long way from the club of the 90s. The flippant, often scene-critical texts come across as sympathetic and don't lapse into phrases. ”According to Karl-Heinz Stille's text accompanying the sampler Punk Rock BRD , which contains the song Mein Bruder is en Popper ,“ [a] authentic Ruhrpott charm in the choice of words and friendly directness “Artless off; he cited the song alongside Slime's D.ISCO as an example of “differentiation from other subcultures ” in punk. Teenage Rebel Records describes the style of the announced album as follows:

“The Schrammelpunkt tradition is being continued, but there is a lot of cracking and it is always driving and to the point. Some of the songs are short, others over four minutes long, but so entertaining that it is hardly noticeable. Lyrically mostly personal, but also scene-related and some socially critical topics and events. "

- Teenage Rebel Records

According to the review by Micha from Plastic Bomb , the vocals have hardly changed, the music still fits Artless despite the increased tempo, the band has retained its minimalism. The lyrics “could well come from the 80s. They are small, simple stories from everyday life. Formulated without much gossip. Without depth and analysis of world events. Other bands have always been responsible for that. Sometimes you wonder if the content is appropriate for the age of the writer. Fortunately there are only a few failures such as the 'Pubic Hair Song' ... All in all, a usable ARTLESS album. "

The Hörspiegel describes the band's new album as follows:

“There are bands that don't get quieter with age, stay straightforward with their words and don't bend their knees even after more than 30 years. One such sign of life and the first regular new CD is the album 'Artless' by Artless. […] Inspired by the 2007 re-release, the original members Hank Sinatra and Willi Solid got together with the support of four other illustrious figures and reformed Artless to promote the CD live. This was not without consequences, because who always just wants to play old things? So it came about that 14 new songs appear on the album entitled with the band name, which are in no way inferior to the old Schrammelpunk. Musically powerful, lyrically experience-oriented, socially critical, humorous and straightforward, the songs clearly move forward. Openers like 'I didn't shoot John Lennon', 'Enlightenment', 'Pubic Hair Sarah' or the Douglas Adams- like 'Make it good' ', the disc is consistent and should please every punk fan. "
