Arto Mansala

Arto Olavi Mansala (* 1941 in Kuopio ) is a Finnish diplomat . He was ambassador in Hungary , the People's Republic of China and Germany , among others .

Life

Arto Olavi Mansala completed a master's degree in political science at the University of Helsinki and graduated in 1965. Subsequently, he joined the foreign service. For the next 14 years, Mansala worked in Helsinki , Moscow and Oslo . From 1979 to 1980 he headed the Russia and Eastern Europe Department in the Foreign Ministry. Afterwards he was Deputy Ambassador in Stockholm for three years . During his time in Stockholm, Mansala was a Fellow of the Center for International Affairs at Harvard University in 1980/81 . In 1983 he was appointed Head of the Western Europe Department at the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He held this position until 1985. For the next four years, Mansale was the Finnish ambassador to Budapest . In 1989 he was transferred to Beijing , which also meant accreditation for Pyongyang . After three years in China, he was ambassador in Moscow for three years . Mansala held his last post as ambassador from 1996 to 2001 as the Finnish representative in Germany. Mansala has been State Secretary in the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2003.
