Artur Golke
Artur Golke (born October 14, 1886 in Danzig , † August 9, 1938 in Moscow ) was a German politician, a founding member of the KPD and a member of the state parliament in the Free State of Prussia . During the Great Terror in the Soviet Union , he was arrested and executed by the NKVD in 1938 .
Life
Golke completed an apprenticeship as a lathe operator after graduating from school. In 1908 he became a member of the SPD . During the November Revolution of 1918 he became involved in the Spartacus League . From 1922 to 1925 he was the treasurer of the KPD district Berlin-Brandenburg. In 1924 he was elected to the Prussian state parliament for the KPD .
Together with Gustav Menzel , Golke succeeded in persuading the imprisoned Max Hoelz and his comrades to break off their hunger strike. In 1925 he became a member of the Central Committee of the KPD and was then the main cashier of his party until his impeachment in April 1933, Walter Beling succeeded him.
Golke emigrated to the Soviet Union in 1933 . There he became economic director of the Comintern rest home in Kunzewo . On March 13, 1938 he was arrested by the NKVD in the course of the so-called " German Operation " and accused of "espionage" and "diversion activity". The death penalty was pronounced on July 29, 1938 ; it was carried out on August 9, 1938.
Artur Golke was related by marriage to Ruth Fischer from 1923 through his brother Gustav Golke (1889–1937) . The brother, who lived in Moscow from 1927, worked for the Comintern until he was shot in November 1937 .
