Artur Wypochowicz

Artur Wypochowicz (born January 1, 1893 in Posen , † February 9, 1972 in Magdeburg ) was a local politician , anti-fascist and resistance fighter against National Socialism .

Life

Wypochowicz joined the Polish Socialist Party in 1918 . In 1921 he became a member of the KPD , which he represented in the Magdeburg city ​​council from 1921 to 1933 .

As early as 1930 he was arrested for treason and high treason . After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, Wypochowicz took part in the resistance. He was arrested and deported to Buchenwald concentration camp . Here he was liberated in 1945.

Wypochowicz returned to Magdeburg and was a member of the city council from 1946 to 1957.

Honor

The city of Magdeburg temporarily named a street ( Artur-Wypochowicz-Straße ) after him.
