career

Cañas started his professional career at Ángeles de Puebla . After the Ángeles had withdrawn from the first division at the end of the 1987/88 season, he moved to city rivals Puebla FC , with whom he won both the championship and the cup competition in the 1989/90 season.

Although Cañas was no longer a regular at Puebla FC as he was at the Ángeles before, he played a very important role in the league title, as he scored the decisive goal for progress in the quarter-final second leg of the Liguillas against UAT Correcaminos in the 77th minute without that the Camoteros would have left at this point in time.
